This publication contends that US government-funded international broadcasting networks, overseen by the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), remain an important tool for the US in its efforts to contest Russian information operations in the former Soviet countries of Eurasia. As a result, the text´s author analyzes this tool, outlining 1) fundamental issues of principle and mission that continue to fuel the debate over US international media - such as whether they should be a public diplomacy tool or independent news sources; 2) broadcasters’ challenges and performance in Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia, and 3) recommendations on USAGM operations in these four nations and on the agency’s work as a whole.
