So, where do Iran’s political factions stand on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement one year after its implementation? President Rouhani continues to back the deal, which he believes opened the economy to foreign investment, increased oil exports, and boosted overall growth. JCPOA’s opponents, however, believe that the concessions Iran had to make have led to high unemployment and increased prices. Also, sanctions are still in place on the banking sector. Despite these quarrels, the text’s author concludes that the odds of Rouhani being reelected in May 2017 are good.
