This paper highlights the inadequate documentation that exists on the reverberating effects of explosive weapons in populated areas. The reasons for this problem are indeed several – 1) on the most fundamental level, a comprehensive review of how explosive weapons impact urban civilians hasn’t been done; 2) the data that’s actually available is scattered among different disciplines; and 3) a standard methodological framework that would bring the scattered information together doesn’t exist either. Given these problems, it’s no surprise that policy practitioners don’t necessarily know how to reduce the impact of explosive weapons use on civilians. In response, the text’s authors close their analysis by providing recommendations on how to tackle the problem.
