This report discusses the potential role the International Monetary Fund (IMF) could play in helping to resolve the global financial crisis that began in 2008. The author states that the IMF could provide immediate crisis control through balance of payments lending to emerging market and less-developed countries. He also argues that the IMF could provide increased surveillance of the global economy through better coordination with the international financial regulatory agencies.
