This report explores the US economic recession that began in December 2007 and compares it to past economic downturns. He also examines the relationship between economic recessions and the financial sector, linking the current recession to oil prices, the world economy and the financial sector. The report concludes with comparisons between the US recession and the Great Depression experienced in the 1920s.
