May 2009

This publication presents a summary of the views expressed during the May 2009 public forum hosted by the United States Institute for Peace (USIP) Haiti Working Group. It discusses the situation in Haiti in 2008, in which there were food riots and devastating storms. The aid relief shortfall led to UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon launching an initiative to energize the international community and convene a donors' conference, held in April 2009. The publication also briefly outlines problems still haunting Haiti such as political instability.
