This report provides an overview of the Future Combat System (FCS), the US Army's major research, development and acquisition program consisting of 14 manned and unmanned systems tied together by an extensive communications and information network. The author examines the status of the program as well as future budgetary issues. The report raises potential issues for Congress, including proposed ground combat vehicles, modernization strategy and impact on operational concepts and doctrine.
