This issue of ACCORD Conflict Trends addresses elections and constitutional democracy in Africa. Contributions reflect on definitions of democracy and constitutionalism, the importance of local governance in consolidating democracy, and the role of women in African electoral politics. Additional contributions analyze election dynamics in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zambia, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and Liberia. This issue also presents situation reports on elections in Liberia, Burundi, DRC, Uganda and the Union of Comoros.
