This paper argues that India's recent growth acceleration has only partially been hurt by the global economic slowdown. For this reason, and given the return of the Manmohan Singh government to power, India is expected to pursue policies that will restore the growth momentum. The author argues that India will have to undertake governance reform at home and ensure a supportive external environment to sustain its rise as a free market democracy.
