This book takes a wide-ranging approach to western security sector concerns, reform and responses to terrorism with a general focus on the post-9/11 world. The authors address issues from intelligence, to policing and military operations, and to counterterrorist activities. Specific chapters examine the role of private military companies, or the impact of terrorism upon certain national armed forces, for example. The book presents the challenges to national security and stability terrorism poses as both real and threatening - but not impossible to contain and overcome.
