This paper analyzes the limitations as well as opportunities in boosting domestic untraded services and enhancing the integration of tradable services sectors in the pan-Asian scenario through formal negotiations. It evaluates the impact of crisis on trade liberalization in services for the Asian countries and recommends regional integration in select service sectors. The paper concludes that integration will work better and faster if it were to take place through a voluntary market-led process of cooperation and unilateral liberalization rather than through formal trade negotiation institutions and mechanisms.
