Publication

This paper provides an introduction to the recently established Panel of the Wise of the African Union. The author commences with an overview of the developments leading up to the establishment of the Panel, its structure and basic workings as well as the activities undertaken by the organ since its inauguration on 18 December 2007. The author discusses several preliminary observations and makes recommendations for a further enhancement of the Panel's contribution to peace, security and stability on the African continent.
