This report analyzes the divergent transatlantic perceptions on key security issues in the Middle East. The report states that although the US and the EU share common vital interests in the region, they each pursue and implement different policies to promote their own goals. The author states that the EU is primarily concerned with the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while the US perceives terrorism and weapons of mass destruction as primary security threats. The author concludes that mending transatlantic relations after the clash over Iraq will depend on numerous factors such as the level of success attained in rebuilding Iraq and in preventing a spillover of policy differences into the NATO and EU security structures.
