This collection of articles discusses the relevance of parliamentary oversight for security sector reform (SSR). The authors emphasize the importance of SSR and explore the democratic control of armed forces in theory and in practice. They consider some best practices of parliamentary oversight of SSR, and analyze the democratic control of armed forces with regard to national and international parliamentary dimensions, such as the EU Parliament and the Council of Europe.
