This report describes the US military's development and procurement of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), also called the Lighting II. It notes that for fiscal year 2010, the Obama administration requested roughly $10.4 billion to fund the program, enough to procure 10 F-35As for the Air Force, 16 F-35Bs for the Marine Corps and four F-35Cs for the Navy. The report also discusses the administration's push to terminate the F-35 alternate engine program - a project to develop a General Electric/Rolls-Royce F136 engine as an alternative to the Pratt and Whitney F135 engine that already powers the F-35.
