This paper provides an overview of the White Paper on Peace Missions and examines the deployment of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) in peace support roles, with a focus on the decision-making process. It discusses practices against the policy for such deployment, and suggests ways to close the gaps between policy and practice. It also examines the guidelines for South African participation in an array of peace initiatives an activities.
