This paper provides an overview of the political, social and economic situation in Saudi Arabia as well as US relations with the country. Among other issues, it examines social change, unrest, and the issue of succession from the sons of the kingdom’s founder, King Abdelaziz, to his grandsons; US arms sales and foreign assistance to the country; an examination of the security threats facing the state and its cooperation with the US in dealing with them; and the state of the country's economy and its trade with the US.
