This paper is the first in a series generated by an October 2010 workshop on 'Trade Policies in South and Southeast Asia', examining trade frameworks, relations and country perspectives on regional trade. It looks in particular at Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) and their relationship to the World Trade Organization (WTO). It also examines the impact of RTAs and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) on the global multilateral system as reflected in the WTO.
