This report discusses the evolution and history of US foreign relations with China and Taiwan. It examines US efforts to resolve the sovereignty claims between China and Taiwan and outlines some of the assistance and concessions to Taipei by the US. It then looks at the political and strategic context of US foreign policy in the region and outlines the challenges for regional stability.
