This report summarizes important recent developments in Pakistan and in Pakistan-US relations. Obama Administration engagement with Pakistan has been seriously disrupted by recent events. A brief analysis of the current state of Pakistan-US relations illuminates the main areas of contention and uncertainty. Congressional questioning of the bilateral relationship arose following the May 2011 revelation that Osama bin Laden long had refuge within Pakistan, deepening long-held doubts about Islamabad's commitment to core US interests. The report summarizes relations between the two countries at the time of writing as fluid, but running clearly a negative course.
