This paper compares the protection of civilians strategies of three different UN peacekeeping operations: the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the hybrid African Union-UN Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), and the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) that was drawn down in early 2010. This comparison of strategies is intended to inform efforts to bring more coherence to the protection of civilians in UN peacekeeping operations.
