This working paper provides an insight into the situation of the largest ethnic minority living in the United States, the Hispano-Americans. The author considers the future of Hispano-Americans in the US and the likeliness of an efficient assimilation process. The paper highlights the different aspects of such an assimilation from a demographic, economic, political, and cultural perspective. The paper concludes with the observation that the Hispanic minority has a definite future in US society because it has grown large enough to defend its rights. However, the author argues that this might entail losing the Spanish language and culture, despite the existence of a strong national feeling.
