In this paper the author examines the mechanisms that operate as conduits spreading the crisis to the Latin American region and the relative performance of Latin American economies in the subsequent period of recovery. The author argues that one very significant factor is that the imbalances in the global economy had different consequences on different countries, depending on their degree of international insertion.
