This paper seeks to provide a deeper and more factual understanding of the challenge conflicts pose to the international community. The study features statistical trends and an analysis of the state of contemporary conflicts, which reveals that most modern conflicts are of an intra-state nature and tend to be the result of failed conflict management. The authors highlight the close link that exists between conflict and terrorism, and address the problem of peace-making procedures. They state that all recent experience and analytical advances underline the need to see conflict not in isolation but as one symptom of more general dysfunctions both in security and governance. In conclusion, they propose a holistic approach to achieve more efficient conflict prevention measures.
