Challenging the portrayal of Haitian woman as victims made popular by the international press after the January 2010 earthquake, this paper looks at the role these women played in the reconstruction efforts in their country. It also looks at the challenges they face as well as at some of the tools available to help empower them. The authors argue that improved social, economic and political empowerment of women is vital to rebuilding Haiti.
