The brief assesses the possible effect of generational turnover on the stability of the Saudi Kingdom. The author argues that it is unclear to what extent – if any – King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz's departure might damage the progress towards social and economic reforms, as well as the reconstruction of the kingdom’s relations with the United States and the so-far effective handling of terrorism. He notes that stability would be best served if the crown were passed to the generation of the grandsons.
