The article discusses the ramifications for the Arab world of the overthrow of Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Bin Ali in January 2011. The author contends that the events in Tunisia were unprecedented in the Arab world in that a popular uprising took place which was not rooted in Arab nationalism.
