This paper examines the US defense strategy and its implication for the South Asian subcontinent. The defense strategy signals a major shift in geographic focus to Asia, and in particular to the Pacific region. The author argues that the new strategy will have significant consequences for South Asia. Depending upon how it is executed, it could either destabilize the region or help to integrate it better with the rest of the world.
