This policy brief discusses the implications of the drive toward neutralizing the political power of the Turkish army for Turkish-Israeli relations. The early retirement of numerous senior military figures represents the final stamp in the process of the military’s neutralization as a significant domestic political player. The author contends that the changes will result in the army making no attempt to challenge the government’s Israel policy in the future which will preclude efforts to restore Turkish-Israeli military cooperation.
