This brief addresses issues that arise after the assassination of Osama Bin Laden by examining the possible effects of his elimination. It explores the importance of Bin Laden to al-Qaeda, the effect of Bin Laden's death on future al-Qaeda activities, and the response to be expected from Bin Laden’s operatives and associates in the global jihad movement. The brief also discusses the future of the global war on terrorism, and moral questions about the use of targeted assassination as a tool in that war.
