This brief assesses a series of speeches given by US President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu prior to September 2011 from a Palestinian perspective. It outlines that, while Obama affirmed Palestinian positions in three major areas, his speeches included many points that embraced Israeli positions. It further states that Netanyahu’s speeches were received by the Palestinians with hostility, reflecting their total lack of trust in him. As a result, the Palestinians did not re-examine their strategy of turning to the international community to recognize a Palestinian state in a UN General Assembly resolution in September 2011.
