This paper examines India's neighborhood security strategy within the context of the political crisis in the Maldives. The author argues that there is a persistent gap between the realization of the significance of India's neighborhood and the crafting of a sustainable strategy to deal with the crises that threaten to jeopardize India’s vital interests. The latest example of this gap was evident in case of the Maldives where India fumbled and faltered in its approach towards the sudden exit of the democratically elected Maldivian president.
