The speaker at this Chatham House event argued that, after only one year, Tunisia has made a successful transition from dictatorship to democratic rule and has begun the process of nation building. There are enormous challenges ahead, primarily in the areas of economics and development. After years of corruption and misappropriation of public funds, the country urgently needs to develop its infrastructure and industrial sector. The speaker also discussed what plans are in place, what external assistance and technical expertise are needed, and how the international community may contribute to rebuilding the country.
