This brief analyzes possibles implications surrounding skirmishes across the Gaza-Israel border. It highlights the use of Israel's Iron Dome rocket interception system, used for the first time during the hostilities. The author also describes the role of Egypt as an intermediary, and questions who sets the agenda from Gaza with regards to relations with Israel, arguing that although the pragmatism required of governance may constrain Hamas, smaller more extremist groups may be more willing to indulge their ideological predilections vis-à-vis Israel without much concern for the broader consequences of their posture.
