The 2012+ terrorist attack in Toulouse shone a spotlight on the threat posed by global jihadism to Europe. It also highlighted several problems that have been on the French and EU agenda for some time, first and foremost of which are the difficulties of integrating Muslim immigrant communities and the issue of anti-Semitism. From an analysis of the events in Toulouse, the author argues that Mohamed Merah was a classic product of the global jihad industry, similar to many other young men around the world trained by al-Qaeda and its affiliates.
