In the midst of the European debt crisis and the euro crisis, this discussion focused on the European project and the issues of democracy, legitimacy and accountability. Featuring panelists from across several European countries, the moderator opened the discussion with questions on whether a federal Europe is desired by European citizens, the sustainability of unelected technocratic governments, and the tolerance of other member states for the dominance of Germany. Panelists brought forth very frank and opinionated responses, with particular focus on the implications for Germany, Greece, France, and the UK.
