This book discusses different mechanisms for tracing Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW). It looks at the technicalities of the different marking and record-keeping systems for arms, and gives recommendations for their improvement. In the second part of the book, the roles of the institutions and organizations involved in SALW tracing mechanisms are discussed, and the effectiveness of existing international legal mechanisms is assessed.
