This report outlines basic facts related to global HIV/AIDS, including the characteristics of the epidemic and US legislation, programs, funding, and partnerships related to global HIV/AIDS. The US has recognized HIV/AIDS as a key foreign policy priority and has passed several pieces of legislation related to global HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care. The report concludes with a brief description of some of the major issues that might be considered by the 112th Congress in response to the disease.
