This Insight analyzes whether an attack against Iranian nuclear facilities by the US or Israel would be legal. It argues that the current situation does not meet the conditions of the legal exceptions available that would allow for such an attack. Legal justification for an Israeli or US attack against Iranian nuclear facilities would necessitate proof that Iran was developing nuclear weapons, that such weapons would be a dire threat and that there was no other way to prevent such development and that the circumstances allowed for no delay.
