The Insight talks about the political situation in Yemen in relation to the revolution in the country which started in 2011. It argues that the Yemeni revolution has, contrary to what the West hoped and expected, further weakened the central state government and resulted in increased Iranian and al-Qaeda influence. It concludes by saying that as local groups have been driven to team up with external forces, the struggle in Yemen is a most important one. This is due to its geostrategic location between Iran and al-Qaeda on the one hand and the West on the other.
