This brief looks at how radical Islam has penetrated the Syrian conflict. It argues that the presence of radical Islamic groups in Syria adds to the pressure already straining the current Syrian government's authority over the country. It concludes that the conflict in Syria has largely been beneficial for Israel, helping to destabilize Syria's government, and by extension, its two key allies. However with the emergence of several radical Islamic groups in Syria strongly hostile towards Israel, Israel's northern border may begin to see attacks in the future, it warns.
