This paper looks at the potential impact of the EU's Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union on the classical constitutional narrative of European integration. It seeks to answer this and whether or not it will be a step back to intergovernmentalism and an evident loss in terms of supranationalism. The paper's main argument is as follows: enhanced cooperation is not per se a tool for either potential disintegration or unbearable asymmetry. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether its use, as advocated in the Treaty might in theory be conducive to disintegration.
