This brief discusses the ongoing struggles in Bahrain taking place over a year after the initial uprisings that followed the Arab Spring. The author writes that the roots of protest in Bahrain are deep, drawing from Sunni-Shiite tension and the fear of Iran. The king's attempts to bring about stability through the granting of greater political freedom has only whetted opposition appetites and made protests stronger and more frequent.
