This brief discusses the use of hunger strikes by Palestinian prisoners and how social media has been used to spread their message. It writes that, with the use of hunger strikes, the Palestinians have adopted methods commonly used in the Arab world since the start of the Arab Spring. The author argues that the development of a new, nonviolent effort designed to change Israeli policy presents a different kind of challenge. In addition, the incident is indicative of the mutual influence between the Egyptian street and the Palestinian street via social networks.
