As of the fall 2012, the Syrian civil war is a stalemate punctuated by acts of terrorism in Aleppo and Damascus. Specifically, Syrian and foreign jihadists are trying to create a humanitarian crisis, especially in Aleppo, in order to provoke a broader Arab-Muslim intervention in the conflict. That the Syrian people are paying a huge price for these political maneuvers seems not to matter for those doing the fighting.
