This report discusses the tensions and rival claims of China, Japan, and Taiwan to the Senkaku/Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea. Members of the US Congress periodically have been involved or expressed interest in the Senkaku/Diaoyu dispute, most prominently during the Senate’s deliberations over the Okinawa Reversion Treaty. More recently, Congressional committees have explored the topic in hearings about maritime disputes in East Asia.
