This article discusses why, in light of the upheavals in the Arab world, the time has come to reexamine the relevance of the Arab Peace Initiative, which arose in Beirut in 2002 and reaffirmed at subsequent Arab Summits. The Arab Spring obligates Israel to study the arena carefully while proceeding judiciously and waiting for the dust to settle. At the same time, the dangers of the past contain challenges and opportunities for the future. Perhaps the Arab Peace Initiative can now afford Israel an opportunity to consolidate its Zionist vision of the secure, legitimate, democratic nation-state of the Jewish people, argues the author.
