This article analyzes the implications of political demonstrations in Jordan. The opposition's most difficult demand, being democratic changes to the electoral system and the powers of the king, remains unresolved. Despite not achieving their rally's goal of mobilizing 50,000 demonstrators, in the long run the regime will continue to face a growing opposition, writes the author of this brief. This will be especially so should the uprisings succeed elsewhere in the region and there is no significant improvement in the economic situation.
