The paper discusses the term "natural born" citizen in terms of the eligibility requirements to be President. Questions from time-to-time have arisen concerning whether one who is a US citizen "at birth" because of the operation of federal law, is also a "natural born" citizen for purposes of the presidential eligibility clause. In this context, the paper examines the connotation of the term while reviewing the constitutional history.
