In 2009, the Australian government announced plans to replace Australia’s existing fleet of six Collins class submarines with twelve more advanced vessels sometime next decade. So far, very little progress has been made and time is running out for a seamless transition to another class. This paper explores the difficult choices the government faces and highlights the consequences of further delays.
